Eliza Gill Grissom was born in Adair county, Kentucky, Dec. 2, 1848 and died March 16, 1917 at Savannah Mo., where she had gone for cancer treatment. Her age was 68 years, 3 months, 14 days. She was one of a family of 13 children, seven of whom still live.
She left Kentucky in 1874 and came to Madison county in March of the same year to teach in our public schools. Her early days in Iowa were spent with her uncle, Elza Blair and wife of South township, where she made her home.
On Feb. 14, 1878, she was married to Nuzum G. Pace. To this union were born three children, all of whom still survive. The children are: Denny Miller Pace, Mrs. John Potter and Mrs. Frank Blosser, all of Patterson. These and three grand children, Leo and Glen Pace and Betty Potter, and five brothers and two sisters remain to mourn her loss; only one brother of the original family being able to be present at the funeral.
Sister Pace testified about her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was converted at the age of 16, and united with the M. E. church. After her marriage, her home was thrown open to God's ministers, who were always welcomed. Mrs. Pace was a kind wife, a faithful mother and a good neighbor.
The body was brought home Saturday, funeral services being held at the Patterson Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Neilson and Rev. Warner, a former pastor at Patterson. Burial was made in Montpelier cemetery.
