Death of Mrs. I. C. Dunmire

Wife of Prominent Farmer Residing South of Town Dies in Des Moines Hospital Friday Night

Sudden Death Results From Heart Paralysis Following an Operation for Appendicitis

This community was sadly pained Saturday morning to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. I. C. Dunmire, an old resident of Jackson township, Friday night at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Mrs. Dunmire had not bee in the best of health since last fall and her last illness was of short duration. She was taken ill last week and her trouble was pronounced by the consulting physicians as a serious case of appendicitis, requiring prompt attention and on Wednesday evening she was taken to Des Moines and place in the hospital for treatment. An operation was performed Thursday morning. She seemed to rally nicely from the operation and hopes were entertained that she would soon be restored to her health and home. But, alas, it was not to be, Friday night a turn for the worse came and about 11:00 o’clock she rang for the nurse, to whom she remarked that she felt “smothery” and in a few moments she had passed away, death claiming her for its own.

Sarah E. Phillips was born November 10, 1853 near Mt. Vernon, Ohio and died Friday, April 5, 1907, aged 53 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Her young life and early womanhood were passed at the old home near Mt. Vernon, Ohio, where on the 8th day of May 1868, she was united in marriage to Isaac C. Dunmire who survives her. Five children were born to bless this union three of whom survive her, James W. Dunmire of Newton, Ia., Mrs. I. C. DeBruyn of Salem, Wyoming and Harry W. Dunmire who resides at home near Dexter.

In March 1880 she moved with her husband and family to Jasper county, Ia., and settled on a farm near Kilduff, where they resided until February 1896 when they came to Dexter moving on a farm south of town, which was her home until her death.

She leaves besides her husband and three children, an aged mother, a sister and two brothers all of Frederickstown, Ohio.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Kellogg, Monday April 8, conducted by Rev. O. S. Baker, and the remains laid to rest beside those of her two daughters, Vida Pearl and Neoma Ethel, in the family cemetery at Kellogg.

The deceased had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church from her childhood—a faithful devoted Christian, wife and mother who has now gone to her reward. She said before going to the hospital that if God called she was ready to go.
