Old soldiers of Winterset and vicinity will be pained to hear of the death on Feb. 26th at Storm Lake, Iowa, of a former Madison county man and soldier, John Wilcox.
Mr. Wilcox came to Madison county in 1854, remaining here until 1859, when he went to Colorado, from there he went to Missouri where, on the breaking out of the war, he enlisted in the Seventh Kansas Cavalry, serving three years with distinction, being in the battles of Iuka, Corinth, and Florence.
On his discharge in December, 1864, he came back to Winterset, where on Oct. 13, 1863 he had been married to Miss Susannah C. Bard. He and his family left here in 1873, moving to Buena Vista county where he had since made his home. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
