LURENE ORWAN, DES MOINES

Lurene Orwan, 91, of Karen Acres in Des Moines, formerly of Lorimor, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Feb. 23) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial will be in the Lorimor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Gale Lurene Wearmouth was born Sept. 27, 1919, in rural Madison County, the daughter of William and Ethel (Campfield) Wearmouth. She graduated from Winterset High School and met her husband Frank when she was in high school. Lurene and Frank were married in Baltimore, Md.

Lurene was a dedicated wife and mother, and she worked outside of the home as a linotype operator for The Lorimorian newspaper for many years. After her husband retired in 1974 the couple moved to Cherokee Village, Ark., where she resided until 2008 when she moved back to Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Lorimor, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and a brother, Lloyd Wearmouth.

She is survived by her two children, Dennis Orwan of Lorimor, and Debbie Petersen of Earlham; two sisters, Verlene Simmerman of Hysham, Mont., and Lucille Gabbert of Cherokee Village, Ark.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
