Dexter, Iowa
July 1971Nettie Mae Morford was born on a farm near North Henderson, Ill., October 23, 1885. She was called to her eternal home July 4, 1971 at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 11 days. She was the third child of John Jasper and Della Allen Morford.
At the age of three years she accompanied her parents, two older sisters and one younger sister to Iowa where they settled on a farm south of Dexter. Early in life she joined the Penn Center Church and retained her membership there for the rest of her life. She also belonged to what is now known as the WSCS. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
On February 23, 1911 she was united in marriage to Clarence C. Moore of Dexter. Most of her married life was spent on a farm in the Dexter vicinity. A few years prior to the death of her husband, they moved to Dexter where she resided until the time of her passing. She was saddened by her husband’s death in March of 1955.
Although she had no children of her own, her love for all children was reflected in the understanding care and attention she so freely gave to young people of all ages. This mutual feeling of love and respect was evident in her warm personal relationship with all. Hers was a fine example of a true Christian life, well lived.
Although she had been in failing health for several months, she remained alert, optimistic and cheerful to the end. Despite her illness, she bore her cross without complaining.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lillian (Mrs. Frank Leeper) and Ora (Mrs. Guy Lenocker).
Mourning her loss are three sisters, two brothers, twenty-two nieces and nephews, as well as many, many other relatives and friends. The list of those to whom she was a true friend is almost endless.
Her surviving sisters are Lena (Mrs. Boyd Myers) of Oklahoma City, Okla., Blanche, (Mrs. J. A. Pitman) of Rio, Ill., and Ruth (Mrs. Willard F. Cummings) of Stuart and two brothers, Fred Morford of Dexter and Hazen Morford of Earlham
