Death of Mrs. Laura Reed

Truro, November, 29. Special—Mrs. Laura Reed died Sunday evening, November 27, at the home of her son, Chas. N. Reed. Mrs. Reed had spent most of her life in Iowa, having moved here with her parents in 1870, settling in Madison county, near St. Charles.

After her marriage to J. C. Reed in 1888, they made their home south of Truro. For sixteen years they were proprietors of the Truro hotel. After Mr. Reed’s death in 1916, she made her home with relatives in California and Washington, D. C. A few months ago she returned to Iowa to make her home with her son.

Rev. Young had charge of the funeral services, which were held at the Methodist church, November 29, at 2 o’clock.

Mrs. Laura A. Reed.

Laura A. Bean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Bean, was born in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, April 16, 1854, and died at the home of her son two miles south of Truro, Iowa, November 27, 1927.

The deceased came with her parents from Pennsylvania in 1870, and settled in Madison county at St. Charles, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to J. C. Reed March 16, 1875. They made their home on a farm one mile sought of Truro, then moved to Truro, where they were engaged in the hotel business sixteen years.

The husband died May 30, 1915. Since that time she has lived in California and Washington, D. C., with her daughter, until a few months ago they came to Iowa to be with her son where everything was done to make her declining days pleasant.

She united with the Truro Methodist Episcopal church a number of years ago.

She leaves to mourn her departure two children, Mrs. Wm. Steer, of Washington, D. C., and Charlie Reed of Truro. Three grandchildren, John, Charles and Robert, also one brother and three sisters. She was a devoted wife and mother, ever thoughtful of the comfort and welfare of those about her.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 2:00 p. m., at the Truro M. E. church, the pastor, Rev. C. R. Young, in charge, was assisted by Rev. S. C. Howe, after which burial was made in the Young cemetery.

Mr. James A. Reed, who came to attend the funeral of his sister-in-law, Mrs. J. C. Reed returned to his home in Creston Saturday. He was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Phillips and Lyla who spent the day in Creston.

ST CHARLES.

Mrs. Kittie Bean and her two daughters, Mrs. Louie Picken and Mrs. Len Williams attended the funeral of Mrs. Laura A. Reed at Truro last Tuesday. Mrs. Reed was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Bean of this place.
