St. Charles, Sept. 1, Special —

William Marks was born in Ohio, August 3, 1840, and came to Iowa with his parents in 1844. He was united in marriage to Miss Nancy J. McCandless, May 5th, 1868. To this union four children were born, two of whom preceded him in death, Miss Tillie and Mrs. Minnie Naylor. His wife died August 27, 1907. In 1909 he was again united in marriage to Mrs. German, of Cuba, Missouri. He died at his home in Cuba, Missouri August 22, 1927, aged 87 years and 19 days.

He was a Civil war veteran. He is survived by two children and his wife, who was unable to go to the funeral on account of her age and poor health. The body was accompanied here by Mrs. Marks’ nephew, Mr. Hewitt and wife, of Cuba, Missouri.

He was a member of the Methodist church and services were held in the M.E. church here last Friday afternoon, conducted by Reverand R. W. McEldowney. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Walter Mark, of La Habra, California; Mrs. Lillian Everhart and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rigler, of Dawson; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Larson and two children of Des Moines, and Mr. and Mrs. John Hewitt of Cuba, Missouri. The Mark family formerly lived here. The first Mrs. Mark was a sister to Mrs. Jim Downs and Mrs. Mattie Fulton. They moved away from here about 32 years ago.

Note: Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
