Tabitha A. Riegle, daughter of Darriel and Elizabeth Riegle, was born in Jefferson township, Madison county, Iowa, May 16th, 1858, and passed away at her home in Winterset, July 12th, 1927, at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 26 days. She spent her childhood and young womanhood in her country home and was married to Elisha E. Eggleston in 1875. Mr. Eggleston died in 1899. To this union were born seven children: one son, Frank Eggleston, and six daughters, Mrs. Christiana Thompson, Mrs. Mary Clark, Mrs. Mahala McDonald, Mrs. Frances McDonald, Mrs. Louisa Gentry, and Mrs. Mabel Young, all of whom are living. She was married to A. F. Hills in 1902, who died in 1921.

She had been in failing health for several years and the past year had suffered intensely, which she bore with great patience and without a murmur. She was lovingly and tenderly cared for by her children, and her grandson, Daniel Peed, and all that loving hearts and hands could do was done.

When a young girl, she was baptized in the Lutheran church and remained a true believer. Hers was a life of sacrifice and loving service to her family, and her loyal devotion to them bears testimony of her upward faithfulness to them.

She leaves to mourn her loss seven children, nineteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, one beloved little granddaughter, Maxine Gentry, having preceded her to the Home beyond. She is also survived by three brothers, John, Seth and Dan Riegle, and three sisters, Mrs. Steve Parkins, Mrs. Emma White and Mrs. Nellie Farmer, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 o’clock from the Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon, and the body was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
