St. CharlesCharles E. Leggett was born in Polk county, Iowa, October 10th, 1866 and died at his home in St. Charles, April 21st, 1927, aged 60 years, 6 months and 11 days old. He was united in marriage to Hettie Scott, January 1st, 1891, and to this union were born three children, two boys and one girl, all of St. Charles: Rex and Roy, and Mrs. Ruth Johnston.
He leaves to mourn their loss an aged mother, Mrs. Margaret Leggett of Truro, a wife, three children, four sisters, Mrs. Ham Dowler of Casper, Wyoming, Mrs. Sam Porter, and Mrs. Wesley Fulton of Truro; and one brother, Mr. Will Leggett, and sister, Mrs. Frank James, of Des Moines. Pg 4Charles Edwin Leggett was born in Polk county, Iowa, October 10th, 1866, and passed away at his home in St. Charles, April 21st, at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 11 days. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church, April 24th, 1927.
His entire life was spent in Iowa with the exception of two years which were spent in Kansas. During the year 1888 he moved with his parents to the Leggett homestead north of Truro. On January 1st, 1891, he was united in marriage to Esther M. Scott at the home of his parents south of St. Charles. The homestead was purchased by the deceased and is still retained as a part of the family possessions. To this union was born one daughter, Ruth Emerald, and two sons, Charles LeRoy and Walter Rex.
Some years ago he was baptized and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he remained a faithful and consistent member. Since last year he has served as chairman of the official board. He was a member of Model Lodge A.F. & A. M. at St. Charles.
He filled several offices of honor and trust in the township and county, the last of which as a member of the County Board of Supervisors, which place he filled for six successive years.
He was a great lover of his home and his family and was ever thoughtful for the welfare and happiness of those who were near and dear to him. He leaves to mourn his going away, his aged mother, Mrs. Margaret Leggett of Truro; his wife, Mrs. Esther M. Leggett; daughter, Mrs. Ruth Johnston; two sons, Walter Rex and Charles LeRoy, of St. Charles; three grandchildren, four sisters, and one brother, his father and one brother having preceded him to the other world.
Note: Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
