PHILLIP L. GRIFFITH, STUART, FLORIDA

Phillip L. Griffith, age 66, a resident of Stuart, Florida for the past seven years, died Saturday evening, Jan. 15, 2011, of lung cancer at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Fla.

There will be a visitation with the family present beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Chris Hartshorn officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Winterset Cemetery at a later date.

Phil, the son of the late Paul L. and Mary (Houston) Griffith, was born July 27, 1944 in Winterset. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1962. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University. From 1963-1966, he was in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif. He then returned to Winterset and worked with his father in the Phillips 66 business. In 1978, he moved to Steamboat Springs, Colo., where he was a paint contractor. In 2004, he retired to Stuart, Fla.

He is survived by his son, Todd, of Colorado; two sisters, Shirley (P.J.) Cunningham and Linda (Jim) Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has requested memorials be made to the Winterset High School Alumni Association.
