JOSEPH ALEXANDER DEAD

Was Resident of Madison County For Seventy-six Years

Joseph Alexander, one of the pioneer residents of Madison county died Monday, October 31, at the age of 78 years, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Alexander was at the home of his son, Fred, in Union township. He had a stroke a year ago, and had not been in good health since that time. He had a second stroke Saturday morning and only rallied once after that. He passed away about 11:30 o’clock Monday morning.

Mr. Alexander was one of the true pioneers of the county. He was born in Ohio and came to Madison county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander, when he was but two years of age. In 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Cox, and she preceded him in death, dying in May, 1919. During their married life they resided in Union township.

Mr. Alexander is survived by seven children, six of whom reside in the county, four sons, Fred, Otis, Sampson and Ernie, and three daughters, Effie, Mrs. E. R. Koehler, and Eva, Mrs. Austin Woods, all of Madison county, and Ada, Mrs. H. W. Schoen, of Newburg, Oregon. He is also survived by one brother, Frank Alexander of Illinois, who came here to attend the funeral services, and one sister, Mrs. Waters, of California.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the North River United Brethren church at 2 o’clock, and burial will be made in the church cemetery.

Note: Burial was made in the North McDonald cemetery.
