Mary Elizabeth Dillon, daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Dillon, was born June 30, 1849, in Oskaloosa, Mahaska county, Iowa, and was called suddenly into the life eternal, October 8, 1927, her age being 78 years, 3 months and 8 days.

She was married to Benjamin F. Beeson December 23, 1863, and to this union there were born thirteen children, four of whom died in infancy and two others in later years, Lydia (Mrs. Clyde), who died in 1911, and Rudolph W., who died in September, 1921. There are seven sons living. Her husband preceded her on April 10, 1910.

She united with the Church of Christ in her early girlhood days and always lived a devoted Christian life. She united with the Church of Christ in Earlham, January 4, 1925. For a number of years her home was in Penn township where she made many good friends. For the last twelve years she has made her home in Earlham.

She leaves to mourn her loss her seven boys, Norman N., DeSoto, Charlie A., Willard, Montana; Pearlie J., Coon Rapids; Stalbert H. and Ira N., Des Moines; Ivol N., Grimes, and Benj. F., Earlham. She also leaves five sisters, Hannah Bailes and Ruth Gross, Van Meter, Myron Hutchins, DeSoto; Martha Walsner, Sac City, and Rachael Miller, Tacoma, Washington. Also thirty-five grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren, and a large number of relatives and friends.

Suddenly, while in the quiet performance of her daily task the spark of life went out and into the “Valley of the Shadow” she held a little firmer in the hand of the unseen friend whom she had learned to know, and by his side she went into the city eternal.

The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. A. N. Simpson, pastor of the Church of Christ of Earlham. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
