HAROLD SAWHILL Died Thursday

Extended illness Ends for Well-Known Resident of Jackson Township

Harold L. Sawhill of Jackson township, a well known resident of this community all his life, died Thursday, June 11, 1964, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, after an extended illness. He was 58 years of age.

Mr. Sawhill was born in Jackson township on May 21, 1906, a son of John C. and Flora Ledlie Sawhill. He attended high school in Winterset, graduating with the class of 1923. He also graduated from Iowa State College at Ames.

During his active life he engaged in farming in Jackson township taking an active part in the affairs of his community. He had served as a member of the board of trustees of Madison county Memorial hospital, the Madison county Extension council, member of the Pitzer telephone board, and the Madison county A.S.C., among other activities. He was an elder of the Pitzer United Presbyterian church.

Mr. Sawhill was married June 12, 1934, to Jessie Roby, at Gravity. She survives him. He also leaves a son, John R. Sawhill of Winterset; a daughter, Eyleen Sawhill, at home; his mother, Mrs. Flora Sawhill of Des Moines; a grandson, John Mark Sawhill; a brother, John W. Sawhill of Des Moines; and three sisters, Eleanor Sawhill of Des Moines, Mrs. Iola Fuller of Des Moines, and Mabel Sawhill of Washington, D. C.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Pitzer United Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink of Winterset and the Rev. Albert C. Bullock. Burial was made in Winterset cemetery.
