NEAL D. WALKER

Neal D. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollen Walker, was born in Madison county, July 27, 1895, died Aug. 3, 1916, at the age of 21 years and 7 days. He was educated in the public schools of this county and at the age of 18 years, he taught one year. He then attended the academy for six months at Central Holiness university, near Oskaloosa. He next entered the high school at Winterset, where he spent a year and three months.

Last Thursday while threshing on the Easter farm, he came to his untimely end about 11 o'clock a.m. At the age of 11, he was converted while attending the Holiness camp meeting at Winterset. Two years later he sought and experienced full salvation. He was a member of the Maple Grove church and of the Christian Endeavor society of the United Presbyterian church of Winterset. His life was one of service and was consistent with his profession. He never spared himself in his service to others. His winning personality and sunny disposition made him friends everywhere.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, three brothers, Amos of University Park, Iowa; Otis, of Winterset and Virgil of Mankato, Minn.; and a host of relatives and friends. We will miss him much, but our loss is his eternal gain.

The funeral services were conducted in the Oak Grove church, by Rev. Cramer of Lorimor, and the remains were laid to rest in the Walker cemetery, for its long and peaceful rest.

DEATH CLAIMS NEIL WALKER

While Working in Field

Just as we go to press, word came to the Independent office that Neil Walker, son of Rollin Walker, a well known young man living about six miles northeast of Macksburg, died while working in an oat field. Early reports claim over heat, but later reports that heart failure was the cause of death. Mr. Walker was on a load of oat bundles and dead before assistance came to him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock form Oak Grove church, Rev. Geo. Cramer of Lorimor officiating. Thus another of Madison county’s promising young men is stricken down at manhood’s threshold. The entire community extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their untimely loss.
