DEATH CALLS A MOTHER

Another Pioneer Answers the Final Summons and is Now at Rest

Paulina Lenocker, a loved mother, neighbor and friend, was called to her haven of rest Thursday, Dec. 31.

The last few years of her life were clouded by acute suffering, but never did she complain of her lot. Always did she greet with kind words and that glorious smile, which still remains with her.

Her hours of shut-in life were spent in making others happy, every minute being occupied to capacity. We shall miss this faithful, loyal and loving mother.

“Dear mother is gone and we will strive to meet her in the great beyond, where there will be no more good-byes.”

The following obituary was read at the service:

Paulina Gehring, daughter of John and Rosina Gehring, was born in Wineburg, Ohio, May 3, 1857, and passed away at her home in Dexter, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1936, aged 79 years, 7 months and 28 days.

When seven years old, her parents moved to Millersburg, Indiana, where she continued to reside until she was 18 years old. She then, with a brother, came to Dexter, Iowa.

On October 12, 1880, she was united in marriage to J. B. Lenocker, who preceded her in death Nov. 2, 1907. Ten children were born to this union, Mrs. Nellie C. Williams, of Dexter; Lloyd (deceased); Arta, of Dexter; Bernice, Mrs. Earl Linn (deceased); Edith (deceased); Hellen, Mrs. Guy Linn, of Bruce, S.D.; Lura, Mrs. John Hill, of Burlington, Ia; Hazel, Mrs. Ray Barr (deceased); Irene, Mrs. Roy Hill, of Redfield, Ia; Josephine, Mrs. Joy Hammond, of Dexter.

With the exception of eight years spent in Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Lenocker spent their married lives in and around Dexter. In 1906 they left their farm south of town and moved into Dexter, where Mrs. Lenocker has continued to live until her death.

Mrs. Lenocker was a Christian woman, devoted to her church and to her family. As long as she was able to attend the services she was faithful in her attendance at the Sunday morning services and active in the Ladies Aid society.

In addition to her own children, she had a large part in rearing and training of four children of her husband’s by a former marriage, Henry of Dexter; Mary E. Larkey, of Fruitvale, Idaho; Lina Rankin, of Cambridge, Neb; Allen (deceased); to all of whom she was a true mother.

In addition to the surviving children, there are 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Ida Huffman, of Forwan, North Dakota, and one brother Charles of Kansas.
