Dexter Library Obituary Collection
Dexter, IowaLuvilla Drushel Lenocker was born July 1, 1839, in Holmes Co., Ohio, near Mt. Hope and died in Dexter, Iowa, Jan. 31, 1914, age 75 years.
In August 25, 1858, she was united in marriage to G. F. Lenocker of Glenmont, Ohio, lived near this place for six years, then moved to Henry Co., Illinois, in 1866. From Illinois they moved to Iowa in the spring of 1869, locating on the Lenocker homestead 5 miles south of Dexter, where she resided until April 1899 when they moved to Dexter. She was one of the earliest settlers of Penn township.
Twelve children were born to this union of whom seven survive: Mary A., R. A., C. W., J. H. and G. W. Lenocker, Mrs. F. H. Fitting and Mrs. R. B. Mount, all living in or near Dexter, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. F. E. Lenocker of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild survive, all were present at the funeral.
The last ten years of her life her health was delicate, yet she was able, in her calm quiet way to enjoy her home, family, friends and neighbors.
The loss within twenty four hours apart on Dec. 12 and 13, 1913 of husband, her companion for 53 years and of the daughter-in-law, Mrs. J. H. Lenocker, living but a few rods distant and of whom she was so particularly fond, was an extremely severe blow to her and added to her senile decline.
At the age of fifteen years she united with the Lutheran church in Mt. Hope, Ohio. After moving to Dexter she united with the Presbyterian Church in 1871 under the pastorate of Rev. Kellogg, and the funeral services were conducted in that church, Feb. 3, and interment made in the Dexter cemetery.
