Death Takes John Lyddon

Funeral Services Held Sunday

Services for John M. Lyddon, who passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines Feb. 24, were held at the Evans Funeral home, Sunday afternoon, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul F. Textor, pastor of the Dexter Methodist church was in charge of the service. Mrs. Clell Sellers provided the music, and sang, “In the Garden”, and “Abide With Me”. Casket bearers were his nephews, Wayne Lyddon, Carmon Lyddon, James Vlager, Wilbur Carter, Warren Carter, and Carl Carter. Mrs. Louis Pohle and Miss Arta Lenocker took care of the flowers, and interment was at the Penn Center Cemetery.

OBITUARY

John Marcus Lyddon, son of William and Olive Page Lyddon, was born near Lenox on March 27, 1878. He passed away February 24, 1956 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines at the age of 77 years, 10 months, 27 days.

He moved to Madison county in 1900 with his parents, where he was united in marriage to Lela Etta Collins February 24, 1909. To this union were born three children: Ila Magdaline who passed away in infancy, Norman Lewis of Des Moines, and Lulu Elaine of Council Bluffs, two granddaughters, Naomi Lee Landers and Betty Ann Lyddon.

Following his wife’s death on Mar. 15, 1915 he continued to live on the farm for one year. Then he and his son moved to Dexter where he made his home.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ida Hayes and Ina Hochstetler, and one brother, Roy. He leaves to mourn his death his son, a daughter, and three brothers, Orville of Menlo, Arthur of Adair, Walter of Stuart, and two sisters, Ona Cady of Ainsworth and Mae Carter of Dexter.
