David F. Bradshaw was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, Feb. 8, 1845 and died at his home in Truro, Iowa, June 16, 1916, aged 71 years, 4 months and 8 days. He came with his parents to Mahaska county, and later came to Madison county, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Martha Ellen Holmes, December, 1871. To this union were born four children: Bennie and Jessie, who died in infancy; and Charles and Clyde, who still survive. One brother William, of Truro and six sisters: Nannie Fulton, Dillie Collins, Florence Burt, Louise Foglesong of Truro; Rebecca Delong of Osceola and Mary McNett of Ruthland, are left to survive him. Three sisters have preceeded him to that other world.
On Jan. 25, 1864, at the age of 19, he enlisted with the 39th Iowa Infantry. He was immediately sent south and placed in Sherman's division. On Oct. 5, 1864, was severely wounded at Altoona Pass. This ended his active service. He was transferred to the Veteran's Reserve Corps and Oct. 2, 1865, was mustered out at Davenport, Iowa.
David Bradshaw is gone and we will miss his face and form on our streets. He has answered the last roll call and gone to the camping grounds in the skies. May the memories of him linger in our minds and help us to meet bravely all the battles of life.
