JOHN B. OLDHAM

John B. Oldham, son of Andrew and Catherine Oldham, was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, Aug. 22, 1844. When three years of age, he moved with his parents to Muskingum county, Ohio. At the age of 13, he came to Madison county, Iowa. He was the last one of a family of five children.

On the 6th day of October, 1870, he was united in marriage to Buena V. Klingman, also of Madison county. To this union were born five children: Elmer, who died at the age of three years; Bertha Henkle, Leslie A., Cora Duff and Josephine Stanley, all of Madison county, Iowa. These with the wife and eight grand children and a host of friends survive him.

He was a member of the Worthington M. E. church for 21 years. He lived on the farm his father bought, for 59 years, then moved to Winterset, seven years ago. He was stricken with apoplexy on Dec. 3, 1911, from which he never fully recovered, then on June 17, 1916, he was taken with congestion of the brain, and passed to his reward June 18, 1916, being 71 years, 9 months and 27 days of age. He was an affectionate husband and loving father. Thus closes the earthly career of a good citizen and a consecrated Christian.

A short funeral service was held at the late home Tuesday afternoon and on Wednesday morning the remains were taken to Worthington church, where the funeral was held by Rev. M. M. Cable, pastor of the Methodist church of Winterset and the remains were laid to rest.
