Dean Gowin formerly of Des Moines passed away August 8 at Madison Manor in Winterset where he’d lived the past three and one-half years. He was 74 years of age.

Dean was the son of William Stokley and Sarah Elizabeth Gabbert Gowin. He was born in Dexter on November 28, 1898. He grew up in that community, graduated from the local school in 1915, attended SATC at Drake University and began working for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Freight Office in Des Moines.

He was employed there until his retirement and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks Lodge 1074.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and six brothers. He is survived by a sister, Bertha Billings of Madison Manor at Winterset, nieces and nephews.

Note: Burial was made in the McDonald-Chase cemetery.
