Winterset Madisonian February 4, 1926
Pg 3Etta Louella, daughter of John and Mary Alice Haines, was born in Champaigne county, Illinois, Jan. 12, 1884, and at the age of 9 years moved with her parents to Hardin county, Iowa. She later moved to Madison county, Iowa, with her parents, and on January 12, 1905, she was given in marriage to Sylvester Chamberlain.
To this union five children were born, Ray, Fay and Carl, who died in infancy, and Laura and Lee, in the home. After their marriage, they resided in Madison County, Iowa, except that they lived in North Dakota for a few years. She had been in ill health for many years and a few days after Christmas she was taken to her bed and Jan. 30, 1926, at the age of 42 years and 18 days, she was called to her Heavenly reward.
At the age of 12 years she accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Alden, Iowa, and upon moving to this county her membership was transferred to the Zion Church near Winterset, Iowa. She was ever a true Christian, a loving wife and mother. Her kindly empathy, her gentleness, her moral and physical courage and her and her extreme patience in her long illness endeared her to all and was dearest to those who knew her best. It may be then said: To know her was to love her.
She leaves besides her husband and two children, her mother and father, three brothers, Ora and Ollie H. of Winterset, Iowa and Marion Haines of Lewiston, Idaho, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Algoe of Peru, Iowa, and Mrs. Maude Wilson and Mrs. Winnie Anderson of Winterset, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon Monday, Feb. 10 at the M. E. church of Peru and burial was made in the Rock City cemetery.
