Page 1Peter Hubbard, one of the “real old timers” of Madison county, died Thursday, March 17th, at his home in Guthrie Center at the age of 83 years. Having come here in 1854, he was raised in Lee township, and married in 1868 a daughter of a pioneer, Harvey Lee, after whom Lee township was named. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard continued to live in the same township until 1881, when they moved to Adair county south of Casey. Later, about in 1910, they lived at Gallatin, Missouri, for two years then moved to Guthrie Center in 1914.
While he lived in Lee township he took a prominent part in the social and political affairs. He was a man to whom men would go for advice and counsel, being Justice of Peace, school director, etc. He wrote an article for the anniversary edition of The Madisonian last November. He had eleven children.
Funeral services were conducted at Guthrie Center, Saturday, March 19th. Herman Mueller of St. Charles and Ernest Mueller of Jefferson township drove over to attend the services.
