Hester, daughter of Alexander and Caroline Buchanan, was born in Peoria county, Ill., Dec. 9, 1865. She came with her parents to Warren county, Iowa, in 1877. She was united in marriage to Chas. G. Silcott of Indianola, Dec. 9, 1886. They lived on a farm about miles northeast of Indianola until about 5 years ago, when they moved to a farm near Winterset, where she spent the remainder of her life. They traveled life's pathway together, sharing life's joys and sorrows for almost twenty nine years. Their family consisted of two children: a daughter, who died in infancy and a son, Ray, who feels the loss of a loving mother.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7, 1915, she passed away, leaving to mourn her loss a devoted husband and one son, two brothers, Wm. and Edward Buchanan of Carlisle; three sisters: Mary Buchanan of Butte, Mont.; Mrs. Chas. Deets of Earlham; Mrs. W. A. Simmons of Indianola, besides many other near and dear relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at the home 2 miles west of Winterset Thursday afternoon by Rev. M. M. Cable of the Methodist Church and she was laid to rest in the cemetery at Winterset.
