Jonas Frederick Johnson was born in Odensvidholm, Sweden, Oct. 22, 1846 and died at his home near Winterset, Iowa, Sept. 23, 1915, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 1 day.
He united in marriage to Ida Sophia Johnson, Dec. 24, 1879. To this union were born eight children: five sons and three daughters, all of whom are living except one son, who died in childhood.
He with his family, immigrated to America, April 13, 1882, residing in East Lynn, Ill., until the year of 1896. He then went to Webster county, Iowa, living there until the year of 1910. He then came to Madison county, Iowa, where he resided until the time of his death. He was confirmed in the church in Sweden at the age of about 15 years. After coming to America, he united with the Methodist church.He lived a true and faithful Christian life and died triumphant in the faith of his Lord, Christ Jesus. The deceased had been in poor health for two years, but was not bedfast until the past two weeks.
He passed to the life beyond Thursday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 a.m. He left to mourn his loss, his wife and seven children: Sigert of Burnside; Frank, of Worthington; Isaac of Murdock, Minn.; Mrs. Ira Youngquist of Harcourt; Mrs. Saml. Bishop of Pisgah and Mrs. Claude Mills and Otto of Winterset; also a brother in Sweden, one brother-in-law in East Lynn, Ill., two nephews at Lungren, Iowa and a host of friends.
The funeral services were conducted at the home of the deceased Sunday morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. Fye of Carlisle. The remains were laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery.
