C.C. WILSON, Former Winterset Citizen Dies

There passed away in Des Moines on Wednesday of last week, a man who was prominently identified with the affairs of this community, fifty years ago, Clarence C. Wilson.

Mr. Wilson, who was born in Louisiana in 1840, came to Winterset in the early 60's. In 1864 he published The Madisonian for about one year. In 1868, in partnership with J. M. Holiday, he established The Sun which afterward became The Winterset News. After a short time, Mr. Wilson sold his interest in The Sun to A. J. Hoisington and moved to Leon, and later to Des Moines. Here he became city editor of the old State Register, and was afterward managing editor of the Marshalltown Times.

In 1878 he was elected to the legislature from Polk county and in 1886 helped to organize the Des Moines News. For the past ten years he has resided in California with his sons, L. S. and C. W. Wilson. Two daughters, Miss Bertha Wilson and Mrs. J. M. Hickins, reside in Des Moines.

Mrs. Wilson was a sister of the late W. C. Newlon of this place and the Newlons and Wilsons were married here in 1863, the Rev. Mr. Ewing performing the double marriage ceremony.
