DAVID SIMS

David Sims was born in Martinsburg, Ohio in December 1835 and died in Des Moines, Iowa, August 1915 in the eightieth year of his life. He grew to manhood in Ohio and responded to the call of his country in the trying days of the civil war, serving in an Ohio regiment.

In November 1863, he was united in marriage with Miss Eleanor Hedge, to this union three children were born, two daughters and a son. One daughter, Mrs. Maxin and three grandsons survive him.

Mr. and Mrs. Sims came to Iowa in 1866 and settled near Polk City, ten years later they moved to Winterset where they made their home until the time of Mrs. Sim's death in 1910. Here Mr. Sims carried on a mercantile business. He was upright and honorable in all his ways, always willing to help. He was highly esteemed for his good works by all who knew him. Mr. and Mrs. Sims were faithful christians all their lives. They brought their church letters with them when they came west, uniting with the Congregational church in Polk City, they transferred to the Presbyterian church when they came to Winterset, for forty years they were faithful in all things.
