James Reed of Scott township passed peacefully away about 11 o'cock Tuesday night. Mr. Reed has been a victim of pernicious anemia for several years and has gradually declined during the past few months.

He came to Madison county fifty-two years ago.

Besides the wife and two sons Clyde and Claude, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Frank Cox and Mrs. W. H. Hildebrand and one brother S. G. Reed. Another sister, Mrs. Thacker of Des Moines preceded him in death five weeks ago.

The funeral was held at the Fairview church at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

The funeral services for the late J. W. Reed who lived near Patterson were held at Fairview last Thursday afternoon. Rev. F. Clare McCallon of the Church of Christ preached the funeral sermon. Mr. Reed lived in this community several years ago and was favorably known by a number of the old settlers.

James Wilkins Reed, son of James and Eliza Jane Reed was born in Jackson county, Iowa, February 28, 1858, departed this life December 29th, 1925, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and one day. He came to Madison county, Iowa, with his parents when 16 years of age where he grew to manhood in Jefferson township.

He was converted at the age of 22 when he joined the Methodist Episcopal church and remained a faithful believer until death.

On December 20th, 1899, he was united in marriage to Ida May Joy, to this union were born four sons: Ray, Roy, Clyde and Claude, Ray dying in infancy. Clyde and Claude were present at the time of his death. Besides his wife and sons, he leaves to mourn his loss three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Cox and Mrs. W. H. Hildebrand and one brother, S. G. Reed of Winterset.

During the five years of his illness he took great comfort in a motto that always hung in his room and were the words of Isaiah 41:10—“Fear not for I am with thee.”

Funeral services were held at the Fairview church on Thursday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon of the Church of Christ.
