Abraham Sly Dudney, son of Abraham and Mary Dudney, was born May 10, 1861 in Madison County, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Truro, Iowa, April 25, 1925.
He was married to Laura Douglas, June 7, 1887. To this union six children were born, Cye the eldest, passing away with the flu while crossing the waters during the world war. Ashley, the only one of the six to survive his father; Jay, Velva Ann, and Lotha May, all passing away before reaching the age of three years and the one infant son.
Mr. Dudney spent his entire life of 63 years, 11 months and 15 days in Madison County. They resided on a farm until the death of his son, Sye, when he moved to Truro. He never belonged to any secret order or church but during his last illness he talked with his brother, Ashley, concerning the future and after this to his wife and asked her to join with him the church of his choice. He prided himself on being a man of his word and had no use for anything he did not believe to be strictly honest.
Besides his wife, son, Ashley, and daughter-in-law, Enid, he leaves four brothers and two sisters, Ashley, of Winterset; Jack of Murray; Oliver, of Hopeville; George, of St. Marys, Kansas; Mrs. Jennie Hann, of Winterset and Mrs. Nancy Burd, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska. The father, mother and two sisters having preceded him to the home beyond.
Funeral services were held Tuesday a.m. at the Methodist church in Truro, conducted by Rev. Raybourn and the body laid away in the Union cemetery.
