Peter Busch

Peter Busch was born January 12, 1850, in Brown county Ohio, and departed this life at Mason City, Iowa, July 15, 1925, having attained the mature age of 75 years 6 months and 3 days. He was the 6th of a family of twelve children born to Henry and Elizabeth Busch and grew to manhood at the home near Carlisle, Ohio.

Of the large family, all reached manhood and womanhood and the parents lived to see their family grow to maturity. The oldest brother, Conrad, was killed in Virginia while serving his country in the Union army during the Civil war. The brothers and sisters: Lizzie, Wagner, Sarah Troutwein, John, Henry, Kathryn, Matilda and William, together with the father and mother proceeded the deceased in death, leaving one sister, Mrs. Mary Hanselman, of Sardinia, Ohio, and two brothers, Andrew, of Orient and Adam of Macksburg, to mourn the loss of a dearly beloved brother.

On February 23rd, 1875, he was married to Mary A. Ball in Ohio and to this union 11 children were born, three dying in infancy, Carey in 1913 and Mrs. Onie Gentry in 1915. The companion also departed this life in 1920.

In 1881 the deceased and his family moved to Madison county, Iowa, where he spent practically all of his remaining years with the exception of last year which he spent with his son in Rockwell City, until going to the I. O. O. F. home in Mason City last December.

Uncle Peter, as he was commonly known by his friends had been a member of the Grand River Lodge No. 406 since the year 1886, so he was among many brothers when he entered the Odd Fellows home last winter, and has left many friends there to mourn his death and the fact that he was permitted to be with so short a time.

Six children survive, Stephen, of Rockwell City; Mrs. Edith Arrowhood and Mrs. Blanche Lippy, of Des Moines; Mrs. Annie Yates, of Winterset; Minnie of Oakdale and Lawrence of Paulsboro, New Jersey, all who were in attendance at the funeral except the latter son who was unable to be here. Besides the children there remain the two brothers and one sister also 10 grandchildren and one great grand daughter, together with many other relatives who will miss him greatly.
