Jackson Connard was born May 24, 1827, in Northumberland county, Pennsylvania, and moved with his mother and brothers to Iowa in 1855. He enlisted in the army July 16, 1861, and was discharged April 26, 1862, not being able for active service on account of hip disease.
He was united in marriage to Miss S. Jane Johnson February 24, 1864. To this union were born six children: Jasper of near Hanley, Marion of Martensdale, Elizabeth and Anna of Des Moines, and Amanda who died in infancy, Elmer of near Winterset. The wife, five children, one brother Samuel of Creston, seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him. He was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Connard lived on a farm near the Union Chapel church from 1855 until 1897. He then moved to St. Charles where he had lived until his death.
Mr. Connard had been a great sufferer for the past six years. He bore his suffering patiently and always put his trust in God. He died in full faith, trusting in the promises of God, which he was ever ready to testify in his suffering to warn any and all to be ready for the great change.
Mr. Connard was born May 24, 1827, and died at his home in St. Charles May 12, 1915, aged 87 years, 11 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church last Friday, conducted by Rev. W. W. Williams, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Blair cemetery.
