Winterset Madisonian – August 27, 1925
Pg 3Lura Edwards was born in Monroe township, Madison county, Iowa, Dec. 2, 1875 and departed this life at her home ten miles southwest of Indianola, Aug. 15, 1925, at the age of 49 years, 8 months, 23 days. She attended the home school at Kasson, then completed her education in the eighth grade at Winterset and at Dexter, where she took a normal course. She taught a number of years in the schools of Madison county.
Dec. 15, 1909 she was united in marriage to Alfred J. Couch. To this union three children were born: Julia Elizabeth, John Marvin and Dwight Edward. John Marvin preceded his mother in death four years ago.
In her girlhood, she was converted and united with the Church of Christ. After her marriage she became a member of the Catholic church. She was of a cheerful disposition and made many friends. She was always a great lover of children. Her greatest grief during her long illness was the thought of leaving her children to go through life without a mother.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and two children; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Edwards of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. J. A. Kitchell of Winterset; four brothers: Marion of Tisdale, Canada; Jay of Devil’s Lake, N. D.; Earl of Cairo, Mo.; and Gaylord of Winterset; Fred having preceded her in death 15 years ago.
Funeral services were conducted from St. Patrick’s church in Lee township, Aug. 17th, and her mortal remains were laid to rest in the St. Patrick’s cemetery.
