ELIZA ROLAND

Mrs. C. W. Roland died last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. W. Mayne, of Winner, South Dakota and the body was brought here Saturday and interred by the side of her husband in the Winterset cemetery. The Rolands lived here during the sixties, Mr. Roland being one of the early settlers of Winterset. In 1869 the family moved to Dexter.

Mrs. E. A. Roland was born in Greensburg, Ind., August 14, 1834, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. W. Mayne, Winner, S. D., April 7, 1915, aged 80 years, 7 months and 23 days.

The remains were brought to Winterset April 10 on the morning train accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Mayne, Mrs. O. H. Bruner, another daughter, of Mason City, Ia., also her two daughters, Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Green, two sons, John Roland, of Corning, Ia., and his son and daughter, and F. F. Roland and wife, of Des Moines. One son, C. W., of Portland, Ore., could not be present.

The body was taken to Rock City cemetery where a short service was held, and laid to rest beside her husband.

John Roland, of Corning, came here to attend the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Eliza Roland, whose body was brought here from Winner, South Dakota, for burial. The Rolands were prominent people in Winterset during the civil war, and until they left in 1868, they were in business on the south side.
