John Marshall McCombie was born in Verdeen, Scotland, Aug. 30, 1857 and would have been 68 years of age had he lived until his next birthday. He came to Canada in the early 80’s, making his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. On Sept. 20, 1888, at Winnipeg, he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Edwards. They came to Winterset in 1890 and during the past 35 years they have made their home in this city. He conducted a tailoring establishment until the condition of his health made the continuant of his business impossible. During the past two years he has been in poor health, and the end came Wednesday morning, May 15, 1925. He had many warm and intimate friends who received with sorrow the announcement of the end of his sojourn on this earth had come. He will be greatly missed, as he was a man of marked personality and well known in this city for many years.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. J. M. McCombie, and their only son, Harry. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the First Presbyterian church with a sermon by LeRoy C. Cooley, D. D., the pastor. Interment was in Rock City cemetery.
