Charles Harvey Erwin, son of Charles and Mary Fenn Erwin, was born at Bridgewater, Litchfield county, Conn., May 8, 1842 and departed this life April 22, 1925, aged 82 years, 11 months and 14 days. He was the fourth of a family of seven children and lived to be the oldest and last survivor of the family. His earliest education was acquired in the little red school house in Connecticut. Later he attended college in Jew Jersey and the Bryant and Stratton business college in New York City. He followed teaching for a number of years.

On Dec. 31, 1872 he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Lawrence of Dunleith, Ill. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Julia Wallace of St. Charles and Mrs. Minnie L. Arkill of Venice, Calif., who survive him. His wife preceded him in death, March 24, 1921.

After his marriage, he homesteaded 160 acres near Kearney, Nebr., later coming to Iowa and locating near Ogden, where he spent four years, locating in 1881 on the old home near Saint Charles, where he lived the remainder of his life.

His health failed him and he has been confined to his home since last January, where he has enjoyed the companionship and kindness of his neighbors and friends. His daughter, Mrs. Wallace, was in constant care of him during his last illness, caring for him at the old home, which he loved so well.

Mr. Erwin often wrote poems and items for the papers. He was a member of late of the United Presbyterian church, where the funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. L. Torrence, and his remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery by the side of his wife to await the great resurrection morn.
