W. C. Maxwell died at his home here in Winterset, yesterday afternoon at 4:30, at the age of 73. He had been gradually declining in health for many years, but continued at work with indomitable pluck long after most men would have given up. For many years he carried on a local express delivery here and his uniform kindliness and cheerfulness under trying conditions was remarkable.

The family came to this county at an early date, locating near Blair Chapel in South township. He leaves a wife and three sons: Wm. H. of Winterset, Bert, of Lethbridge, Canada, and Frank of Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services will be held at one o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Methodist church.

William Clark Maxwell, the son of William and Margaret Ralston Maxwell, was born in Burgettstown, Pa., Oct. 2, 1851 and died at his home in Winterset, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1924, aged 73 years, 2 months and 29 days. His parents moved to Guernsey county, Ohio, when he was a small child and in 1861, he came to Winterset.

He was converted in early manhood and became a member of the United Brethren church at Providence Chapel and later transferred his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church of Winterset, about 12 years ago.
