Page 5George Byron Seevers passed away last Thursday at Oskaloosa aged 75 years. His death marks the passing of another of Madison county’s early settlers. With his parents, he came here from Oskaloosa when he was 16 years old and grew up with the young people of Douglas township. He never married but lived with his parents and cared for them throughout their declining years. For some time, he has been making his home with relatives in Oskaloosa.
He was here to attend the old settlers’ picnic on Labor Day and spent a week visiting relatives, old friends and neighbors. His brother, M. F. Seevers, went to Oskaloosa at the time of his death and with Hugh Nelson, a nephew, accompanied the body to Winterset.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. D. J. Shenton officiating. The services were largely attended by old friends and neighbors, some of them coming quite a distance, which testified to the regard and esteem in which he was held by those who knew him longest. The choir from the West Star church sang at the services.

Page 6George Byron Seevers, oldest son of George W. and Mary Seevers, was born at Oskaloosa, Iowa, Oct. 20, 1849. He was the oldest son of the family and for many years was the one the others often leaned on for counsel and guidance and were never disappointed.
At 16 years of age, he went to Winterset and lived here for about 16 years. After this he spent 8 years in California, caring for his father and mother until their death, when he lived for another 8 years at Oklahoma and in other place until he returned to Oskaloosa, where he resided until his death, which occurred October 31, 1924.
Mr. Seevers was never married. He was greatly beloved by all and often made the sun to shine brighter in the lives of those not so fortunate. Especially was he the friend of children and often did them many kindnesses. His father was blessed of a poetical gift and left many poems which the son had published and paid for the publishing of them himself.
Two of his sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Josie Morgan and Myra Seevers. There are remaining of the family his brothers: M. E. Seevers of Winterset; Perry of Orland, Calif.; E. E. of Port Angeles, Wash.; Omar, of Arkansas; and a sister, Mrs. Wm. Seevers of Allen, Nebr., and many other relatives and friends who mourn the going into the silence of death of one greatly trusted and loved.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Winterset on Nov. 2nd at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton.
