Mrs. Jacob McNeley died at her home in southeast Winterset on Tuesday, at the age of 77 years. She was a daughter of David Bishop, one of the three commissioners who named Winterset. She was married to S. J. McNeley in 1865, to whom seven children were born, those living are: Arthur of Oregon, Roy and Charles of Winterset, also one daughter, Mrs. Effie Martin in the home. The aged husband also survives.

Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton of the Methodist church and Rev. L. E. Follansbee of Des Moines, her former pastor.

Minerva Bishop, daughter of David and Arsilla Bishop, was born in Des Moines county, Iowa, March 15, 1847. The family moved to Madison county when she was only four years old, settling six miles southeast of Winterset. Her father was one of the three commissioners who named Winterset.

When 17 years of age she united with the Christian church and remained a faithful member as long as the Winterset church was active. After she was prevented by ill health from attending the church services, she continued happy in her faith in Christ until the end.

She was married to S. J. McNeley, Nov. 28, 1865. To this union were born seven children. Two died in infancy and one daughter passed away in 1920. There are living three sons, Arthur, of Amity, Ore., and Roy and Charles of Winterset; also one daughter, Mrs. Effie Martin, in the home. Besides those, she leaves 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She also leaves besides her husband and children, one brother, John Bishop, of ______, Nebr., and two sisters, Serepta Augustine and ______ Watkins of Jennings, Kans.

She passed away at her home in Winterset Oct. 14, 1924, aged 77 years, 6 months and 29 days and was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
