Was Early Pioneer Here. Wife was First White Child Born in County.
Andrew Tusha, one of the very early settlers of Madison county, died on Monday, the 18th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed Allen of Clovis, New Mexico. He was born in Germany, Oct. 16, 1837 and so lacked but a few weeks of attaining the age of 87. When a young man, he came to Madison county and married Mary Clark, who died on Sept. 7th, last year. His wife was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Clark and was the first white child born in Madison county.
About two years after their marriage the Tusha’s located on a farm two miles southwest of Winterset, and the school nearby is still known as the Close farm in Scott township, now owned by T. C. Doak. They retired from the farm to live in St. Charles and later moved to New Mexico, to be near their son, Ed Tusha of Elida, Mrs. Ed Allen of Clovis. He was buried by the side of his faithful companion of many years, at Elida.
Note: Andrew is buried at the Elida Cemetery, Elida, Roosevelt, New Mexico.
