John Welch died last night, Sept. 12th, at the home of his son Pearl Welch, who lives near Peru, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Welch was born in Pennsylvania, but came here when he was a small boy, with his parents, and settled in Lincoln township. He has been in failing health for some time, but about six weeks ago he became critically ill with dropsy of the heart and kidney trouble. His family took him to the hospital at Creston, and they started to take him to Rochester, but he became so bad they thought it not wise to move him.

Mr. Welch lived on the home farm in Lincoln township for a number of years. He moved to Winterset several years ago, then moved back to the farm again. However, last spring he and his wife moved to Winterset, residing in the southwest part of town. He is survived by his wife who was previous to her marriage, Miss Martha Kennedy; and two sons, Pearl and Seldon; one brother, Samson, all of this town; and two sisters Mrs. Florence Lake of Orient and Mrs. Belle Peach, also of Winterset. No definite arrangements have been made for the funeral but it is thought at it will be held in Winterset, Saturday.
