JAMES MADISON DAVIS

James Madison Davis was born in Randolph county, Indiana, Aug. 6, 1848 and died at his home Aug. 20, 1918, at the age of 70 years and 14 days. He was married to Arvilla Franklin June 6, 1870. To this union were born eleven children, seven of whom survive him, his wife, and four children having preceeded him in death.

Mr. Davis was stricken with paralysis 18 months ago, from which he never recovered. Throughout his entire illness he always manifested the spirit of patience and cheerfulness. His mind was clear and active until a few minutes before he was called from his earthly home. He has resided in Madison county 47 years.

He leaves to mourn his loss, seven children, two son in laws, two daughter in laws, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the U. B. church Aug. 22nd, where he was laid to rest beside his wife and children. Rev. Fleming of Van Meter, pastor of the U. B. church, conducted the service. The bereaved family has the sympathy of friends and neighbors.
