Mildred L. Jones of Heather Manor passed away there on Thursday, September 25, 2003. She was born June 19, 1916, the oldest daughter of Joseph and Gracie Jones. She grew up in rural Madison County and graduated from Winterset High School in 1934. She taught in several rural schools in Madison County and attended summer classes for many years, graduating from Drake University in 1961 with a masters degree in Education. She taught in Fontanelle and Des Moines, retiring from Douglas Elementary School in June, 1981.

Mildred was an active member of First Christian Church in Des Moines, Ramsey Home Guild, Alpha Delta Kappa and the Iowa Women's Philatelic Society. Mildred loved to sew, travel and especially work with children.

She is survived by one sister, Lucile (Jones) Lamb, a number of nieces and nephews and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Alice.

Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 29, with burial at Penn Center Cemetery near Earlham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Douglas Elementary School Library Fund.
