CLARENCE LUCAS, WINTERSET

Clarence "Shorty" Lucas, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Oct. 20) at United Methodist Church in Winterset. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society.

Clarence was born Sept. 12, 1923. He was the youngest son born to the late Clarence George Lucas, Sr., and Wilda Jewel Kale Lucas. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1941 and his marriage to Bellezora Cooper took place on Feb. 17, 1942, in Missouri. Clarence farmed east of Winterset near the Holliwell Bridge. He was a member and served on the boards of the Winterset United Methodist Church and the Madison County Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bellezora; his oldest daughter, Karen Woods; and two brothers, John and Kale.

He is survived by three daughters –– Dianna Jencks of North Canton, Ohio; Kristin Hibbs of Iowa City; Marsha Freed of Winterset; a son-in-law, Bruce Woods of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

CLARENCE "SHORTY" LUCAS , Winterset

Clarence 'Shorty' Lucas, 87, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, at the United Methodist Church in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, at Ochiltree Funeral Service where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society.

He is survived by three loving daughters, Dianna Jencks of North Canton, OH; Kristin Hibbs and her husband, Dale of Iowa City; Marsha Freed of Winterset; a son-in-law, Bruce Woods of Des Moines; nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Bellezora, and daughter, Karen Woods.
