Emma Patridge was born in Michigan, Oct. 18, 1832 and passed away at her home in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa, Jan 11, 1922, aged 82 years, 2 months and 24 days.
After her marriage to Orrin Mapes, Feb. 14, 1861, in Delaware county, Iowa, they came to their present home. Her husband passed away Sept. 7, 1907. To them were born four sons and three daughters, four of whom survive her; Charles of De Soto, Iowa; Laura, who is at home; Mrs. D. S. Church of Nowlin, S.D.; and Festus. Irving, Bertha and Ernest died in infancy. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Irving Cole of Storm Lake and Mrs. J. S. Martin of Colesburg, Iowa; also 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was at one time a member of the Advent church and lived a quiet Christian life. She was a good mother and loved by all who knew her. She knitted for the soldiers of the civil war and the soldiers of the world war. She was also the oldest continuous resident of Penn township, having lived on the same farm for fifty-five years and eight months.
