Orie J. "Jack" Murphy, 75, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his home in West Des Moines. At Jack's request, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 26 at the Camp Dodge Chapel, followed by interment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.

Orie "Jack" Murphy was born April 3, 1935 in Winterset, the son of Orie and Mable (Love) Murphy. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Jack was married to Sharon Fisher November 27, 1962 in Des Moines. He had worked as a maintenance engineer for Iowa Realty and Schneider National. Jack was a proud father of six children, he enjoyed horse racing and loved to fish.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Patricia Baer of Urbandale, Michael Murphy of Des Moines, Carol (Don) Arpy of Milo, Troy (Rosanne) Murphy of West Des Moines, Jaquelynn Murphy of Urbandale and Shari (Kevin) McNamara of Norwalk; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials in Jack's name be directed to the Gold Star Museum at Camp Dodge.
