Pg 1David Kale Getchell was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, Nov. 25, 1840. He came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, in 1855. Dec. 1, 1870 he was married to Mary L. Wasson, of Winterset. Two sons were born to this union: Fred A. and Charley E. Mary Wasson Getchell died April 30, 1879. Dec. 26, 1882 he was married to Verna L. Bard of Madison county. One daughter, Blanche, was born to this union.
He went west to Lane, Idaho in 1907. Dec. 27, 1912 he was taken ill with a dropsical affliction of the heart, and was removed at once to the nearest hospital at Coeur d’ Alene City, Idaho, where he passed away on Jan. 28, 1913.
He was a member of the Knights of the Maccabees, Backbone Tent No. 54 of Winterset. There being no K. O. T. M. lodge at Coeur d’ Alene City, the Masonic order, of which his son, Charley, is a member, served as pall bearers. A short service was conducted by the Methodist minister and the body was laid to rest in the Coeur d’ Alene cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter, his eldest son, Fred A., having died at El Paso, Texas, Nov. 23, 1907.
