Mrs. W. S. Sumner died at her home west of the city Sunday morning at 4 o’clock. Mrs. Sumner had been in failing health for some time. She took suddenly worse at the breakfast table Saturday morning. Nothing could be done to relieve her and she gradually failed until the end as above noted. The funeral occurred from the late residence Monday afternoon and her remains were laid to rest by the side of those of her husband, who died in 1906.

Mary L. Fountain was born at Winooski Falls, Vermont, Sept. 4, 1833; died at Winterset Jan. 12, 1913, aged 79 years, 4 months and 8 days.

Her childhood and early womanhood were spent in Vermont and New York. At Moriah, N. Y. May 26, 1852, she was married to Wm. S. Sumner. With her husband she came west in 1862 to Galesburg, Ill. and a year or two later they made their home on the prairie near Oneida, Ill. They lived there 19 years, coming to Winterset in 1881, which place has been her home until her death.

She united with the church in youth, made her home a Christian home and made the world better. She was a dear mother and helpful friend, her husband having died Nov. 1, 1906.

She leaves to mourn Wm. C., Arthur J., Raymond F. and Gertrude E. Sumner, all residing here, and all being present at her death.
