Page 3William T. Orr was born March 1, 1837. In 1842, with his parents, he moved to Iowa territory. At the age of twenty one, he went to Kansas and lived two years, coming back to Iowa, in August, 1860. On July 16, 1861, his regiment, Co. C. 5th Iowa infantry was mustered into U. S. service. On Nov. 16, 1862, he was discharged on account of wounds.
He was married on Nov. 10, 1863 to Elizabeth Acheson. The following are the names of their children: Mrs. Grace Clay of Exira, Iowa; H. W. Orr of Arkansas; M. J. Orr of Winterset, Iowa. The oldest child died in infancy. The deceased died Oct. 3, 1912, at the age of 75 years, six months and twenty nine days.
Brother Orr gave his heart to God many years ago, and has ever since lived a faithful follower of his Master whom he loved so well to serve and honor. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his loss a faithful wife and the above mentioned children. The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church by the pastor, Rev. W. G. Hohanshelt, at 2:30, Saturday afternoon. Pitzer Post G.A.R., had charge of the burial services at the grave. A Christian man of “good report” and beloved by all was laid to rest with the honors of his church and the G.A.R.
