Rachel Collins was born at Cumberland, Ohio, Jan. 18, 1822 and died at Patterson, Iowa, Aug. 28, 1912 after only a few days sickness with blood poison, aged 90 years, seven months and ten days.

In 1842 she was united in marriage to John Gillogly and to this union were born eleven children, four of whom are living, William of Orange, Calif., Mrs. Chas. Fulhart of Muncie, Ind., James Gillogly, Mrs. Saml. Blosser and Mrs. Maggie Smith, an adopted daughter, all of this place. These, together with 33 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and a host of friends, she leaves to mourn their loss.

In the fall of 1844 they moved to Jefferson county, Iowa, where they lived about twenty two years. The rest of the time was spent in Madison county, the last six years of which she has been in the home of Mrs. Samuel Blosser. In this home, the aged mother received every possible care and kindness that a devoted child and her family could render.

She united with the Methodist church in childhood and has ever held to her childhood faith. She went to sleep realizing her weakness and declining condition to awake in eternal glory.

The funeral services were held from the M.E. church on Thursday at two p.m., conducted by Rev. A. M. Eastman. Interment in the Montpelier cemetery.
