Rosetta A. Merrill was born in Unity, New Hampshire, Nov. 21, 1824. She was united in marriage to Erastus G. Perkins, Dec. 22, 1847. They came to the great west in Madison county, Iowa in 1857, where they have since lived.

Six children were born to them, of whom three are now living, Mrs. James Breckenridge, Mrs. Henry Leveke and Miss Alice Perkins all residing in Madison county. Two grandchildren, Deloss Shull and Anabel Perkins have been given a home with Grandma Perkins. Seven grand children are living. Mother Perkins has been a member of the Methodist church for 36 years. She has been a widow 23 years, bravely bearing the burden of a bereaved life. She fell asleep in Jesus aged 87 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Mrs. Rosette Perkins passed away at her home on East Jefferson street on Friday, the 28th, having reached the advanced age of 87 years. Mrs. Perkins was the widow of E. G. Perkins who came to this county in 1857 and located on a farm eight miles west of Winterset.

For many years, the Maple Grove post office was kept in their home. Mr. Perkins was prominently identified with the Grange movement of the early eighties and was one of the foremost citizens in the early development of this county.

Since Mr. Perkins’ death, the widow has lived with her daughters and maintained a home for two of her grand children. An obituary sketch will be found in this issue of the Madisonian.
