Death of J. W. Williams

A telegram yesterday morning announced the death of J. W. Williams, whose serious illness was noted in last week’s issue, at Weatherford, Okla., where he had gone two weeks ago to visit his sister, Miss Sarah Williams, who was then quite ill. Mr. Williams was subject to attacks of Bright’s disease, which was the cause of his death.

His son John from East Peru went last week. The body will be brought in tomorrow morning by way of Peru and burial will be made from the United Presbyterian church at two o’clock.

J. W. Williams Dead

J. W. Williams, an old time resident of Winterset and one of its best citizens died at the home of a sister in Oklahoma, Monday. The body will be brought back to Winterset for burial and the funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at the home of his son, Sam Williams,

Mr. William went to Oklahoma a few weeks ago to see a sister who was very sick and was seized with an acute attack of Bright’s disease to which he succumbed. He had been in rather frail health ever since his retirement from the millinery business several years ago.

Mr. Williams was well known to everyone in Winterset. He was one of the most respected citizens. He came here about 1890 from Virginia. He was a veteran of the Civil War.

Obituary, John Williams

Mr. John W. Williams was born in Morefield, Harrison County, Ohio, November 1, 1835 and died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Osgood and his sister, Miss Sarah Williams at Weatherford, Oklahoma, April 22, 1912.

He was married to Miss Anna E. Satteitwaith, July 7, 1859 who died April 2, 1899. Four sons and two daughters were born to this union. The four sons survive to mourn his loss, Charles S. Williams of Los Angeles, Harry E. Williams, Ohio, John W. Williams, Peru, who was with him during his sickness and death, Samuel H. Williams, of Winterset with whom he made his home.

Mr. Williams was one of the best known and respected citizens of Winterset and was a veteran of the civil war. He came to Winterset in the latter eighties. He was engaged in the millinery business for about 20 years, retiring about 3 years ago. He was a friend to all who knew him and was especially a favorite of the young people.

He united with the U. P. Church in 1906 and was a faithful and consistent member.
